The past four years have probably been full of their fair share of stress. They say high school is the best time of your life, but you really don’t realize it until it’s over. Instead, you just spend this time navigating drama, studying for tests, and trying to get some sleep with an overly full schedule. And now that it’s nearly over, it’s time to really celebrate! If you are planning your senior session, you need to find ways to be totally prepared so you can have portraits you’ll treasure for years. As a Chicago-area senior photographer, I adore working with students to help them have their perfect sessions. Here are some tips for prepping for your Lincoln Way High School senior session.
First of all, you need to think about the location as well as when you want to take your Lincoln Way High School pictures. Spring is gorgeous but tends to be very busy for photographers. If you want this season, you will want to plan your pics for the spring before senior year. Meanwhile, if you are willing to brave the winter, you can find more openings while also getting some great snow pics. When your pictures are inside, the season is less of a concern. Pick out where you want to take your pictures and what you want the background to look like, and then book your session.
Outfits are going to be a pretty major part of your Lincoln Way High School pictures. They will add colors and textures, and they will do quite a lot for your confidence. Choose options that look great while also keeping you comfortable. You don’t want to spend your entire session in a dress that barely lets you move from pose to pose! It also helps to make sure you aren’t choosing anything that clashes with your location.
I always encourage my clients to bring along props that show off how they spent their time over the past four years. If you did an extracurricular such as a sport, bring along your uniform and some equipment. You can play a song on a musical instrument or show off some tricks on your skateboard. Cars, books, and coffee cups can also be helpful props!
There’s a good chance you have your hair and makeup routine down to a science, but I would still advise you to book a professional the day of your pics. They know how to create a style that will look good on camera while lasting throughout your whole Lincoln Way High School session. I also encourage my clients to book a manicure. It’s going to help you feel a bit more put-together throughout, and you won’t get to your session realizing you forgot to trim them the night before.
Lastly, have fun with your pictures! If you feel uncomfortable, your portraits are going to show it. Let’s find ways to laugh throughout your session. Share a joke, tell a story. You can move around and dance to add some energy. I even encourage my clients to bring along a bestie who will keep them smiling until the last picture is done!
Hopefully, this list helps you as you plan your Lincoln Way High School senior photos. And if you are still looking for your senior photographer, I would love to connect!
